“Atmospheric, calming and beautifully powerful”

Whether you're furnishing a family home, designing a commercial space or searching for the perfect statement piece, I'd love to hear about your project.

Every home has its own character, and sometimes the perfect painting simply doesn't exist yet. Commissioning allows you to own an original artwork created specifically for your space, taking into account its proportions, light, colour palette and atmosphere. The result is a one-of-a-kind painting that is deeply personal and uniquely yours.

Helen Simms is a contemporary landscape painter based in Buckinghamshire. Her work has been collected by private clients throughout the UK and is inspired by the quiet beauty of landscape, memory and light. Every commission is created personally by Helen from her studio and is designed to bring a lasting sense of calm and atmosphere to the spaces in which we live and work.

COMMISSION WORK

Commissioning an original painting should feel enjoyable from beginning to end. Whether you already have a clear vision or would like guidance choosing the perfect size, palette or composition, I work closely with every client to create a painting that feels completely at home in its new setting.

Below you'll find answers to some frequently asked questions. If there's anything else you'd like to know, I'd be delighted to hear from you.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Every commission begins with a complimentary, no-obligation consultation. This can take place in your home, at my studio in Buckinghamshire, or virtually via telephone or video call.

During this conversation we'll discuss your space, your ideas and how you'd like the finished painting to feel within your home. Together we'll explore colour palettes, compositions and previous works to develop a clear direction for your painting.

If you're unsure what size or format would work best, I'm always happy to advise. Photographs, videos or a visit to your space help me understand the proportions, light and atmosphere, allowing me to recommend a painting that feels perfectly balanced.

Some clients come with a particular place in mind, while others simply want to capture a feeling or atmosphere. I use these conversations as the starting point for creating a painting that is personal, expressive and entirely unique.

Throughout the painting process I'll share progress photographs so you can enjoy seeing your artwork evolve, before the finished piece is carefully prepared for framing and delivery.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE?

Most commissions are completed within approximately 8 - 12 weeks, depending on the size of the painting and my current schedule.

If you have a particular deadline in mind, please let me know and I'll always do my very best to accommodate it where possible.

HOW MUCH WILL IT COST?

Below is a guide to pricing for some of my most frequently requested sizes.

Guide Prices

18 × 14" (45.72 × 35.56cm)
£495 unframed | £550 framed

24 × 20" (60.96 × 50.8cm)
£695 unframed | £765 framed

36 × 24" (91.44 × 60.96cm)
£1,195 unframed | £1,295 framed

30 × 48" (76.2 × 121.92cm)
£1,595 unframed | £1,695 framed

60 × 40" (152.4 × 101.6cm)
£2,350 unframed | £2,500 framed

These guide prices are based on standard canvas sizes. One of the joys of commissioning a bespoke painting is that it can be created specifically for your space, so I'm always happy to recommend the most appropriate dimensions and provide a personalised quotation.

Every painting is created using professional oil paints and museum-quality canvas, ensuring it can be enjoyed for generations. Guide prices include UK delivery.

THE COMMISSION PROCESS

  1. Complimentary consultation

  2. Size, colour palette and composition agreed

  3. Quotation accepted and 50% deposit paid

  4. Painting begins, with progress photographs shared throughout

  5. Final balance payable upon completion

  6. Framing (if selected)

  7. Carefully packaged and delivered to your home

WHEN WOULD I NEED TO PAY?

Once we've agreed the size, composition and quotation, I ask for a 50% deposit to reserve your commission. The remaining balance is payable once the painting has been completed and approved, prior to delivery.

WILL MY PAINTING BE FRAMED?

I often recommend a simple contemporary floater frame, which complements my paintings beautifully and gives them a refined, gallery-quality finish.

Framing is entirely optional and we'll discuss the most suitable finish during our initial consultation.

HOW WILL I RECEIVE MY PAINTING?

Completed commissions may either be collected from my studio in Buckinghamshire or delivered by fully tracked and insured courier.

UK delivery is included within the guide prices for paintings up to 60 × 40" (152.4 × 101.6cm). Larger works or international delivery can, of course, be arranged and will be quoted separately before work begins.

Testimonials.

  • What a talent! Helen spent time taking pictures, looking at the light and even taking into consideration the paint colour of my room. The end result is absolutely stunning. I found the whole process delightful as Helen is conscientious and so easy to communicate with. I would recommend her work in a heartbeat.

  • Helen created a beautiful bespoke piece of art for us. We talked through what our requirements were, she listened and gave some great advice on how to take our ideas and bring them to life. Helen came and checked out where we wanted to hang the art and suggested the most appropriate size to suit the space. The finished work was perfect and everyone who sees it comments on it. We'd definitely recommend Helen for any art projects you may have.

  • I knew I wanted a large abstract piece of art and had an idea of the colour palette but that was it. Helen worked with me to develop some ideas, then did some rough mock ups before we agreed on the final design. The whole process was collaborative. Helen was lovely throughout and I loved the artwork. I highly recommend Helen's work and the way she works.
