Step into a day of colour, texture, and imagination with Helen Simms as we explore the art of abstract landscape painting. Whether you’re a curious beginner or a practicing artist looking to loosen up your style, this workshop will help you see the landscape - and your creative process - in a new way.
Set in the beautiful, light-filled historic Lovat Bank, the day offers an inspiring environment to create, experiment, and focus. With personal guidance and practical advice from Helen, you’ll learn how to translate the essence of a landscape into expressive form. Through a combination of guided exercises, demonstrations, and personal painting time, you’ll explore how mood, memory, and intuition can shape your work.
In this workshop you will:
Experiment with shape, rhythm, and abstraction to capture the feeling of a place
Learn how to simplify and build dynamic compositions
Explore colour palettes that express emotion rather than reality
Develop confidence with texture, layering, and expressive brushwork
Leave with at least one completed painting and fresh inspiration for your practice

All materials provided (or bring your favourites if you prefer)
Tea, coffee, and light refreshments available throughout the day
Option to wander into nearby Newport Pagnell for lunch, or bring a packed lunch to enjoy at Lovat Bank
