Full Day Abstract Painting Workshop - 19th July 2025
A full-day immersive art experience in the historic Lovat Bank, Newport Pagnell
About the Workshop
Join Helen for a relaxed, inspiring day of abstract painting in the beautiful setting of Lovat Bank. Whether you're a complete beginner or an experienced painter looking to loosen up and develop the skills needed to work more intuitively, this workshop will guide you through layering techniques, intuitive mark making, and the importance of strong composition in Abstract work — all rooted in Helen’s painterly, dreamlike approach to art.
Through a mix of demonstration, guided exercises, and time to experiment, you’ll create several works on paper and begin a canvas to take home (and continue if needed).
What’s Included:
All professional materials (paints, brushes, oil pastels, inks, paper, canvas, mediums)
Tea, coffee & refreshments throughout the day*
Step-by-step support in a small group setting
A beautiful, calming space to create and reflect
Your finished artworks to take home
What You’ll Learn:
Abstract mark making and layering techniques
How and where to draw inspiration for Abstract painting
The importance of composition, contrast, and visual balance in Abstract painting
The skills needed to develop your own visual language and work intuitively
What to Bring:
Optional - any images/ colour palettes/ objects you find inspiring. I tend to begin my abstracts with an image of a landscape, so will have a few printed out. However, you may have a particular colour palette, place, botanical image (you name it!) that resonates with you. Or you can work completely intuitively with no reference. There is no right or wrong approach!
Tea, coffee and light refreshments will be available throughout the day. However, you may wish to bring a packed lunch or take a little walk into the town centre to purchase from one of the local cafes or shops.
Lovat Bank, 37 Silver Street, Newport Pagnell, Milton Keynes, MK16 0EJ
A unique, historic building full of character and natural light – perfect for painting.
Saturday, 19th July
10:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Pricing
Standard Ticket: £75
Early Bird: £70 (limited availability)
All bookings include materials, refreshments, and guidance from Helen Simms.
